I was sworn in to my department in December '82 so I believe I purchased it within plus or minus one month of 12/15/82 (most likely minus, or Nov. '82). The serial number is 250XXX. (edited to conceal last three numbers).
Based on the caliber, frame & barrel assembly it appears to be a 14-2 and if so the 216.. serial number would indicate 1979 - see page 9 of that doca new serial number system. The new system consists of four sets of digits separated by a hyphen. The first set is the manufacturers code, the second designates the type of firearm, the third set is the firearms chronological number, the fourth set shows the year of mfg.
