You would be amazed if you took a small scale and weighed various 8 oz sinkers. Ones made with alloy might only go 6 ozs. Pure lead also pours better and melts at a lower temperature.

The worm gear that the level wind guide travels on is often forgotten when lubing a reel. Trick is to turn it upside down and put 1-2 drips of lube before fishing. This way - reeling in/out lubes up the worm gear and pawl. The pawl is a very thin piece of metal that rides in the groove of the worm gear. As others stated - it often wears out.
