Dolf, the number you are looking at is NOT the serial number, it's the factory assembly number, used to keep the major parts of the revolver together for final fitting. The correct serial number will be stamped on the butt of the revolver. You will have to remove the stocks to see it.

Relax. There were no steel frame Model 39-2 pistols. All the steel frame guns were made in the 1950s and most of them were held in the vault until about 1966, then they were sold off. All of them with model numbers would have been Model 39, not 39-2. Yours will have an A prefix in the serial number and none of the steel frame guns had that.
