The 1.4 TC works very well with the 70-200, and IQ should be better than the 70-300 - but 280mm may be too short. The 1.7 TC is still ok if you stop down to f/8...Domke's F-802 may be big enough (and I know the F-804 is, but it is a big bag). The challenge with many messenger bags is the depth of the main compartment. Fitting a Z9 with a lens is challenging as the minimum of the L, W or D is probably going to be bigger than the main compartment of a messenger bag or its insert.

You can get precise manual focus with either a Nikon DSLR (Nikon Df) that can accept it as well as adapting it to a mirrorless camera (Olympus PEN-F). In those days I was processing raw files with Nikon Capture NX2. The question was whether it was better to use ADL or just expose for the highlights and lift shadows in NX2. With the old D60, it was apparent that using ADL was a better way to go. In Aperture Priority, the camera did choose different shutter speeds with ADL turned on.
