You don't need to worry about saving Smelter Wedges if you explore everywhere before fighting the boss. If I'm not mistaken, there are 12 Smelter Wedges in total (6 at the beginning, 4 in a chest, 1 with Fume Knight and the last one in the memory of Sir Alonne). You'll be fine even if you use all of your Smelter Wedges before fighting Fume Knight.

Ranking the DS2 DLCs is hard, because they are all pretty equal in my opinion. What I like most of the DS2 DLCs are the areas.
