That said, I'm sure the Wicked Edge would do a fine job since it holds the knife still and it has controlled angles pre-set etc. The downside is that the Wicked Edge is $250. The other downside is that you need to sit down, set up the apparatus and dedicate some time to sharpening your knives. The problem is that when you want to cook, you want ... First, splash and then balm. I typically prefer unscented balm but ymmv. I tend to do either/or, mostly by scent or at random. If I have a lot of razor burn I tend toward a balm. If it's very hot or humid, I stay away from thicker, oily balms. Lighter "aftershave milk," gels, etc work fine in any weather for me.

So I want to say that I've had the Wicked Edge for almost three years now. I started with the Gen 1, immediately upgraded to the Gen 2, and last week finally got my Gen 3 vise. For me personally, I should have stuck with the Gen 2 and spent that $200 on other accessories.

Razor blades are highly YMMV. Just trust your own experience. I love Rockwell blades, I get a weeks worth of shaves out of them, but everyone is different.
