The MR920 does have some non-standard things that the Glock doesn't, like a different sized slide backplate, a round nosed firing pin, and a different extractor spring set-up so not all Glock parts will work in the MR920. One of the other benefits of going with a MR920 is their self-defense usage policy. Yeah there's a little bit more real estate on the MR920 grip than the Glock 19 grip. It's not much, but it's there, and it helps a wee bit. Just like undercutting a Glock trigger guard. I have both (MR920L, Glock 19 and 19X) and I can guarantee you that the grip on Shadow Systems is better.
The best mags for a gun built off of a glock are oem glock mags, no contest. Gen 4 and 5 mags are interchangeable. Imo avoid ETS, i dont have much good to say about them. Magpul mags are good for the range but i wouldnt use them for carry. E: excluding the g43x/48 with shield mags and the metal mag release. 5.
