You might want to lower the timeout for hatch rendering under. Edit > Application Preferences > Graphics View > Appearance > Timeout for hatch rendering.

The trial version produces identical DXF/DWG files as the full version. Only PDF exports, printouts and bitmaps are watermarked. The unit of your drawing is almost irrelevant for QCAD in construction mode. QCAD simply works with 'units', whatever a unit is. The drawing unit only plays a role when printing to scale.
