When an impulse is sent, the sodium rushes into the cell and the potassium rushes out. This makes the cell positive and creates an Action Potential. Then, the ions move because of te change of permeability in the membrane. So, after the impulse is sent, the cell expends energy (ATP) to pus the sodium back out and potassium back in.

A group of sensory neuron cell bodies found just posterior to the spinal cord on either side. A pair of root ganglia exists for each spinal nerve that expands from the spinal cord.
