Doesn't sound right. The 750's along with the 1500's have used shaft drive for many years. Shaft drive is supposed to be low maintenence and reliable. There is oil in there that needs to be changed periodically. The 750 is a tried and true design that has been in production for years. Rock solid bike overall.900 problems.
