According to that article, the only thing locked is the amount of torque transfered to the rear. If this was the case, why even have the button.

I'm just seeing this thread for the first time, but I was going to comment that it could either be a failure in the VTM-4 system OR a different failure that has disabled the VTM-4 system causing the light to illuminate. In your case, it was obviously the latter.
