Duramax ticking noise.

There is a service bulletin out there somewhere from GM that addresses this issue, and it is perfectly normal. Someone else may be able to chime in, but I see a sticky attatched a couple threads back. 2006 2500 LBZ CCLB * NFAB STEP BARS ... 1. Low Oil Level. Most often, the ticking is caused by a low oil level and will go away as soon as the system is topped off. When the engine doesn’t have the right amount of oil, pressure drops and ticking begins. Ticking might intensify as you accelerate or push the car harder.I'm a diesel owner as well and have this ticking noise - constant, steady ticking when traveling at low speeds. I notice it when I'm at the coffee drive thru and I can hear it quite well as it bounces off the adjacent wall. I have service scheduled tomorrow and plan to have it addressed. Weird ticking noise on 2015. It only happens while the truck is running and it's coming from the engine clearly herd from the wheel wells. It sounds like a hot exhaust cooling down and the crack/pop/ticks you get. Again it happens ONLY while running and the truck is not in a regen.

The Silverado book says it was filled with "Dexos" but the LGH and LML Duramax Diesel supplement book says to use API CJ-4 oil. There are no stickers under the hood near the dipstick/oil fill to indicate either.

This is so common on ALL duramax engines-- GM circulated a TSB for the techs to advise them-- it is normal. Some call it a "Typewriter" noise. Nov 14, 2019 · Just traded my 2018 2500 Duramax for a new 2020 2500 L5P and notice a throbbing sound at idle when the engine is warmed up ( currently 2200km). Dealership says it is covered under the #16-NA-32 Bulletin on common engine noises Duramax 6.6L, but this is not the ticking or cycling that I have heard on my previous Duramax.

The proper repair for that is to replace all of the high presure fuel side and flush the low pressure side. A failure of the hpfp sends tiny little metal bits into the fuel injectors damaging them. The hpfp is on the front lower driver side of the engine ... I have a similar ticking noise in my 2017 Sierra but I only notice it at really low speeds. Pop-off pressures are (don't quote me on this) around 1300-1700lbs. for most diesel engines IIRC, so they can get a little noisy, especially when it's cold out.It can become very pronounced right after changing your oil. Sometimes mine is worse right after changing than other times. This last time, no ticking after changing oil. But it is normal as stated above. Chris.
