The transmission however takes a GL4 rated gear oil or synchromesh fluid. A gl5 rated oil has too much sulfur in it which affects the synchromesh parts. Mike.

Minimum spec is 80W-90, which I think is usually semi-synthetic. Or you could use 75W-90 full synthetic. Just make sure it says GL-5 differential oil on the bottle, since a lot of these viscosities overlap with transmission oils that are GL-4 spec on the package. So in short: GL-5 = differential oil, GL-4 = (manual) transmission oil.
