Yep, I've got a 989-M2, the 795 mags work quite well in it. If you have ANY issues with a 795 mag in an older Marlin, it's likely the mag needs a little feed lip tuning. Or the magwell/mag release has an issue...also easily resolved. The 989-M2 is basically a 795 with a better stock & rear sight.

The only thing I've done to the 795 is to throw a set of Tech Sights on it, polish the bolt, and fiberglass bedded a steel rod in the forearm and weighted the buttstock a bit.
