I think you should go for heavy armor.After all,it's a warrior character. Except if you want a thief-warrior character,like mine.If that's the case,spend your points on sneaking,archery,one-handed,block,smithing and other skills you want. I would suggest picking either sword and shield or duel-wielding first.

If you're using alteration magic, robes may be better since you can get the mage armor perks, which strengthen the flesh spells if you aren't wearing armor. Robes in general also have higher magic reductions than you find on armor, or can enchant yourself without exploits. If you arent using alteration, then wearing some armor can be more useful.
